Tour Championship Brings the 2018 Season to a Conclusion

This was Wolf Creek weather at its most challenging. Brisk winds, a cool morning and cloudy skies greeted 94 junior golfers from across the province this morning at Wolf Creek Golf Resort just south of Ponoka. At stake were bragging rights for the 23rd Annual Tour Championship which has been held every year at Wolf Creek since the Tour’s inception in 1996.

The rain held off today, and the kids moved around the course at a very acceptable pace of play. When all the cards were turned in, Mathieuu Chapdelaine, 18, of Connaught GC in Medicine Hat was our new Junior Boys Tour Champion, turning in a score of 5-over 75, one shot clear of Kaiden Nicholson of the Edmonton CC, Chase Bodoano of Broadmoor, and Brendan Weiland of Springbank Links in Calgary. In the junior girls’ division, Jayla Kucy, 12, of Camrose, continued her fine summer as she became the youngest McLennan Ross Junior Tour Champion in our 23-year history. Kucy, who captured the Alberta Bantam Girls Championship last week at Goose Hummock, fired an excellent score in the conditions of 77, six shots clear of Kaitlyn Wingnean of the Derrick.

All we can say is thanks to everyone who made today’s event and the 2018 Tour season so much fun and such a success.
