2022 AJT Taber Junior Open
By Dunc Mills:
Another busy week on the McLennan Ross Alberta Junior Tour came to a conclusion on Friday in Taber for its stop on the Tour. Over thirty juniors from across southern Alberta dropped in to compete, and the local organizers did another great job in providing a terrific venue and a well organized tournament.
Daillon Kryzanowski of Picture Butte earned his second Top Five finish of the week, having finished T4 earlier in the week at Desert Blume Golf Resort in Medicine Hat. Kryzanowski, 17, the junior club champion at Picture Butte, fired a steady 1-under par 71 to get his nose to the finish line two shots ahead of Jackson Wesley of Paradise Canyon Golf Resort in Lethbridge. Wesley had a great week on Tour as he competed in all three stops in Desert Blume, Strathmore, and Taber and swept the boys U15 age group in all three events. This was Kryzanowski’s first McLennan Ross Alberta Junior Tour win and his score was best in the U19 division as well.
We had a three-way tie for first in the U17 division as Owen Bruins of Desert Blume, the host club’s Alex Makarchuk and Seth Murphy of Paradise Canyon all posted scores of 2-over 74 in the tightly-contested tournament. The boys U13 age group went to Ethan Volk with an 87.
In the junior girls’ division, Hannah Thomas of The Glencoe went back-to-back after capturing the Strathmore tournament on Thursday. Thomas fired a very tidy 84 for her second girls’ championship of the week. After watching this youngster several times over the course of the summer, I don’t think this kid knows the meaning of the word ‘rough’! No wonder she is often near the top of the leaderboard.
Just two more weeks remain on the 2022 McLennan Ross Alberta Junior Tour as we head down the home stretch to the Tour Championship coming up on August 29th at Wolf Creek Golf Resort. We are in the Edmonton area next week for tournaments on Monday in Stony Plain, Tuesday in Westlock and Wednesday in Wainwright. We believe that spots might still be available for Westlock and Wainwright, so if you want more opportunities for good competition and chances to earn points towards qualifying for Wolf Creek, please contact Jackson Meier at Alberta Golf to see if you can still get in for Westlock or Wainwright.
