Three weeks ago, we had some of the most sudden and violent weather in the 23-year history of the McLennan Ross Alberta Junior Tour. It wiped out the Camrose Junior Open. The re-scheduled tournament went on this morning at the Rose City layout, thankfully without a hitch. We had some occasional light drizzle and while the course was soggy in spots, the juniors played at a brisk pace (average round was about 3 hours and 40 minutes) and they played well!

Chase Bodoano of Broadmoor captured his third Tour win of the summer (Innisfail, Olds) with a fine 1-over par 72, three shots clear of Blake Hammel of Ft. Saskatchewan. The host club’s Erik Bouck was a further shot back in solo third on 76. With the Tour Championship coming up in a couple of weeks, spots are still up for grabs to enable players to test their games at “The Wolf”.  We had an unusual situation today as most of the competitors in the field in Camrose had previously qualified. There were only five players today who hadn’t previously qualified and they all got in! Sometimes, you just gotta pick your spots, kids!

New qualifiers today included Greg Gurba of Broadmoor, Jess Borgfjord of Camrose, Nathan Mochulski of The Quarry, and Jose Lopez Peterson of Jagare Ridge, all from the flight for boys born from 2000 to 2002. Landon Scharf of Camrose got the available spot from the flight for boys born in 2005 and later.

Two junior girls were on hand this morning, and both Mikayla Wood of RedTail Landing (106) and Camrose’s Nicole Rohr (123) were already in the Tour Championship field. These two girls had a blast playing together and turned in their scorecards in WELL under four hours!

It is going to be a lot harder to get a TC spot tomorrow as the Tour heads to the Edmonton Petroleum Club where we expect to have the largest, and probably the deepest, field of the 2019 Tour season. Entries are closed for the Pete Club event, but we have another terrific course on the Tour schedule on Thursday this week an hour west of Edmonton at Trestle Creek Golf Resort, which is still accepting entries up to 5 p.m. on Wednesday evening. Reminder, it’s an 8 a.m. shotgun start tomorrow and while the club has four hitting nets available (the range is closed for major renovations), we suggest players arrive in plenty of time to register, share the warm-up nets, and enjoy the complimentary muffin and juice bar!
