2021 AJT Woodside Junior Open

Alberta Golf (Red Deer) – By Dunc Mills

Over the last several McLennan Ross Alberta Junior Tour events, it seemed that the winners weren’t the least bit shy about posting several birdies in their rounds to offset a few of the inevitable mistakes and get their winning scores under par.  Sunday at the Woodside GC in Airdrie, we had a very unusual first-place score turned in by 16-year-old Aidan Fong of Country Hills GCC in Calgary.  Fong’s scorecard added up to 3-over par 73, but contained NO birdies!!!  We actually had two scores lower than 73 turned in by two boys in the U13 division, but those youngsters played a substantially shorter set of tees.  That still doesn’t diminish in the least the scores turned in by Tyler Hennessey (71) of Earl Grey and Charles Greaves (72) of Banff Springs.  We didn’t get a chance to interview those kids, but I have to presume they made some birdies!

“I had three 3-putts for bogies, but never made a birdie all day,” said Fong.
